As the alter ego of Juan Diego Calzada, a stage designer now having metamorphosed into a queer creature, Isabel Do Diego is capable of traversing the different gradations of Spanish popular song with all the fierceness of a constantly mutating xenomorph. Eerie, sensual and performative, the Cordoban’s austere and brutalist folklore recovers the essence of the most old-school copla, projecting it into a realm where loops and beats converge in a churlish approach to ambient, the exaltation of the ugly, and the abstract electronica of Arca, Matmos, Diamanda Galás and the last Scott Walker. #experimental
