Sailing through the mist between a twilight Richard Hawley and an apparition from the Roadhouse Club of “Twin Peaks”, Johnny Labelle weaves melodies that are as magnetically dark as they are devilishly romantic. With echoes of the 50s clashing against the avant-garde of post-punk and ambient pop, this Athenian singer-songwriter had already turned heads with “XVIII”, his second effort after the foundational “Cold Fruit”, where synthesizers and strings wrapped around that seductive baritone voice. But it was in 2023, with “May Your Dreams Come True”, when Johnny found his most personal sound.
