A new prince of urban lo-fi that seems poised to conquer the scene through a slew of slow-cooked singles. Originally from Ceuta, but settled in Getafe, mori personifies all the sadness exuded by a photo without likes (life on Instagram can be unbearable, and he knows it). Alternating between Spanish and English, his songs meander lazily between nocturnality and treachery. Drawing upon influences such as XXXTentación and Lil Peep, Mori deftly casts the shadow of all the British R&B of the last ten years and ends up connecting it with a mix of abyssal hip-hop that conjures up an under-produced Massive Attack. In songs like ‘Q no‘, ‘Olas‘ and ‘Vanish‘ one can also detect touches of Why? at their saddest, although there is no shortage of nods to the indie pop of The Magnetic Fields, or even Neutral Milk Hotel. Critics talk about “metaindie” and “antipop”, but for him it all comes down to a line of piano and a couple of phrases scrawled in an old Moleskine notebook. #pop
