Monkey Week SON Estrella Galicia is an annual meeting point where artists, audiences and professionals of the Spanish independent music scene can interact with delegates and professionals from all over Europe, Latin America and other parts of the world. In short, it is the place to discover and make visible all those musical initiatives that will eventually become part of the new European cultural industry and, by extension, of the increasingly powerful Latin American circuit.

“What Monkey Week wants and every year gets: fill us with music (good, messy, eclectic) and send us home with the feeling that we will no longer be the same”

(Mondosonoro, Spain)

Where are the artists and professionals that will constitute the scene, the audiences, the growing consumption habits and the new networks of cultural collaboration that will be established in the next ten years? Do not hesitate, you will find them in Seville from November 19 to 24, 2018. Considered the festival that has established showcase format in live music of our country, Monkey Week SON Estrella Galicia has consolidated in its recent editions the international interest: professionals and musicians from territories such as Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Brazil, Costa Rica, Colombia, USA, Portugal, France, England, Belgium, Holland, Italy, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, Denmark, Sweden, Russia, Australia, Japan, Korea and China have participated in recent editions.

“The Iberian equivalent to the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas. An energetic and chaotic environment with an unlikely fauna of girls with bangs and bearded guys wearing pride bands shirts. A small revolution “

(Libération, France)

Monkey Week SON Estrella Galicia is an urban festival, a trade fair, a professional meeting, a cultural event and an entire experience that this 2018 will celebrate its tenth anniversary with a special commemorative edition that will highlight the possibilities offered by the interpersonal relationships established between artists and professionals in the sector.

In its latest editions the festival has considerably increased its programming, extending in number of days and encouraging the proliferation of new environments and activities. All this has been possible thanks to the opportunity offered by a 100% urban space such as the Alameda de Hércules in Seville and its surroundings, the epicenter of culture and leisure in the Andalusian capital. This year we will again have places as attractive as the Santa Clara Space; rooms and clubs such as Fun Club, Holiday by Obbio or Sala X; theaters like the Alameda; enclaves as special as the now classic bumper car track converted into an outdoor concert hall; the public stage located in the Alameda de Hércules or the stage of the wonderful Torre Don Fadrique, an albarrana building built in 1252 and located in the courtyard of the convent of Santa Clara, within the area of the walls that encircled the old walls of Seville. Considered an Asset of Cultural Interest, the Don Fadrique Tower will be the epicenter of the professional area that, as every year, will offer transversal programming directed exclusively to professionals.

“Beyond music, Monkey Week is a vital key for culture”

(The Quietus, UK)

Monkey Week SON Estrella Galicia is not a macro festival with millionaire headliners (there are too many incipient bands to close our ears to the evidence). In this event, the new blood, the risk and the audacity of all those artists and entrepreneurs that will configure the line-ups of future festivals

Nor is it an event where the agglomerations and vasovagal syncopes prevail. Not even a rigid industry fair to use (too many pubs and bars per square meter). The urban character and the idiosyncrasy of the place where it is developed definitively distance Monkey Week SON Estrella Galicia from the massive format, turning its programming into a friendly and intuitive ally, especially if you are looking to discover who is who and what is cooked in the current independent scene.

And although our maxim “Discover tomorrow’s music today” may sound like a fantasy by Christopher Nolan, all of us who make it possible year after year to build this ephemeral city of music we feel especially indefatigable.
